Racist Couple Doesn’t Tip “Great” Waitress Because She’s Black

A waitress from Ashburn, Virginia was shocked after she was left a racist message on a receipt instead of a tip.

Kelly Carter works at Anita's New Mexico Style Cafe in Ashburn and on Saturday morning, was left in awe and shock when a couple she was waiting on refused to tip her, although they claimed she gave them "great service."

Carter was waiting on a couple who seemed to enjoy their breakfast, but, refused to tip because she's black. The couple was white. Upon returning to collect their signed receipt, Carter read the message they left that said,

"Great service

Don't tip black people."

Carter told NBC Washington she was "shocked."

'It was just total shock, that's all that I can say. I looked at the receipt three times because I was so shocked, never ever being a server have I seen that.'

The restaurant manager told FoxDC,

"It's appalling, disheartening, outrageous - all of the above. Thought it's kind of in line with the political landscape."

After the story went viral online, people established a fundraising page for Carter who lives off of her tips as her living. It had raised $680 so far.
