Sure, America is a Democracy where the citizens are allowed to elect whomever they please to hold office, but, for the first time in what feels like forever, the country has decided to elect a candidate with absolutely no political experience and no knowledge of what it entails to actually be the President of the United States.

Throughout his presidential campaign, Donald Trump has said things that have been racist, sexist, xenophobic and outright wrong. He has instilled the idea that he would overturn vital bills in the Supreme Court, such as the Respect for Marriage Act that was passed in 2015 legalizing gay marriage federally, as well as Roe v. Wade, which legalized a woman's right to choose in terms of abortion. Trump has also discussed building a wall across the southern boarder of the United States to keep out Mexicans and other immigrants from entering the country. He has instilled fear in Muslim Americans due to the Islamophobia that exists within the nation and in turn, have many people fearing for their lives, their rights and deportation.

With only days left before Trump is set to take office and take over the country for the next four years, people are still baffled and surprised that he actually won the election at all.

And, with these feelings of paranoia and horror comes thoughts of – how the f*ck did this happen?

Comedian Chelsea Handlder has a few ideas, in fact, that may explain why America became so obsessed with electing someone such as Trump to office.

In a recent interview with Variety, Handler confessed that she actually blames the Kardashians for Trump's election win. That's right – the Kardashian sisters. Before you jump down her throat, hear her out, she has some good thoughts on the matter.

"[The media needed to] stop covering him so much. They were treating him as an entertainer first. It was a reality show. We’ve turned into a reality show.

I blame the Kardashians, personally; the beginning of the end was the Kardashians.

The way these people have blown up and don’t go away — it’s surreal. Everyone is for sale.

We’re looking at a man that gets mad at Vanity Fair for reviewing his restaurant poorly. By the way, have you ever been to that restaurant? It’s the biggest piece of garbage you’ve ever walked into.

That place looks like a Southwest airport lounge. It’s the worst."

She's not too far off. When the Kardashian family came about in 2007, it became a phenomenon for reality TV stars everywhere. The media became obsessed with people who were stirring up even the smallest controversy and followed their every single move. When Kim Kardashian had a sex tape that broke – she rose to fame and has yet to really fall. Handler isn't blaming the Kardashians in the literal sense as in, they are the reason Trump won, but instead is blaming what they stand for – reality TV characters that people become infatuated with.
